Stories that Inspire.

Victories to Celebrate.

Letter from the Director – October

For 21 years, the Rescue Mission Alliance San Fernando Valley has focused on sheltering and supporting single parents and intact families experiencing homelessness, along with providing outreach programs. We have been so grateful to offer survival outreach services to chronically homeless men and women through our mobile shower unit and community partners, but we have always felt the need to offer something more than a single meal or a single shower. We want to offer a real hope for a lasting change for their tomorrow.

It is with such joy that I share that on August 22, the desire to offer extensive care to our chronically homeless neighbors was fulfilled as we cut the ribbon to the mission’s new 10-month residential life recovery program for men, Renewed Hope. In this free program, men experiencing addiction and homelessness will be able to address the underlying causes to their life controlling issues in an environment that offers love, dignity, truth, and hope.

The program consists of daily classes made up of life skills like money management, career readiness, and healthy relationships, in addition to Bible classes, discipleship classes, and relapse prevention. Participants also spend 25 hours a week at our thrift store where they learn and practice valuable soft skills like showing up on time, conflict resolution, receiving constructive criticism, and team work. Men who successfully complete 10 months of the program will also be eligible for up to two years of transitional housing where they can prepare for re-entry into society as an engaged and contributing member.

For all of those who continue to support and partner with the work of the mission, your time, talents, and treasures are multiplying in their impact in our communities! Thank you so much for joining us in the charge to change lives for good!
