Mission celebrates new campus opening in northridge
The Rescue Mission Alliance San Fernando Valley is growing to accommodate Los Angeles’ great need for more effective services for those experiencing homelessness, addiction and poverty.
On the evening of April 21, more than 200 local government officials, community members, business owners, and supporters came together to celebrate the opening of the Rescue Mission Alliance San Fernando Valley’s new facility. The five-building campus on Nordhoff Street in Northridge will be home to men who have entered the Mission’s 10-month Life Recovery Program, making a commitment to break their addiction and get off the streets. It will officially open to residents this month.
The evening began with tours of the buildings, before a program featuring Mission Director David Prentice, and the men’s program manager, Rick Chamness, took place. A congratulatory speech was presented by John Lee, Los Angeles City Council Member, District 12.
“It was so humbling seeing that kind of support from our neighbors and friends,” said Prentice. “We are so grateful for our partners who have walked alongside us in opening this new facility, and we look forward to continuing to grow with the support of the community.”
Another special moment came when a video message from Actor/Comedian Tim Allen was shown, pledging to match $125,000 in donations to the men’s program. “The program is designed to help men who’ve lost their way get back on their feet,” Allen told the crowd. “(The Mission) takes no government money, which means we have to rely on the big hearts and generosity of people like you.”
