Here at the Mission, we believe celebration is an important part of moving forward, so much so that we come together one night a month to celebrate the successes and accomplishments of our guests. We call these times “Friday Celebrations.”

Our staff takes time to commemorate the hard work of guests in a variety of ways. Guests who are moving into their own apartment are presented with a certificate and keychain. Above and Beyond awards are given to guests who have gone out of their way to contribute around the shelter. A Student of the Month award is presented to a child who has shown exemplary behavior.

We also have former guests, now in stable housing, speak to the group. They share about their journey, their challenges and successes, and any advice they have for current guests in our program. At the end, we close with an open mic time. Guests are able to share things that make them proud, either of themselves, a family member, or another client.

The event can be an emotional time for clients as they look back and see their progress in the program. Though they face many challenges, they often see many miraculous circumstances in their short time at the Mission, whether that be securing stable housing, obtaining employment, growing closer as a family, or building a supportive community of friends. There is no shortage of things to celebrate on any given day at the Mission.
