Wade’s Word – January, 2018

Happy New Year! So many of us are thinking about the changes we want to make as we consider the New Year. You might be thinking about getting those pounds off after
indulging in goodies during the holiday season (I know I ate too much pumpkin bread). Or, you might be thinking about ways you can improve a significant relationship. Maybe it’s finding a work/life balance this year. Whatever the case, I wanted to give you something else to consider.

I love these words that John Wesley spoke hundreds of years ago: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you ever can.” This is exactly the kind of resolution that the poorest in our city need from us right now. While it is absolutely true that we need more housing and more services to help our neighbors who are homeless, what they need most is kindness.

They need to know that they are valued and that they deserve our very best. I hope you consider doing “all the good you can” this year!
