A Letter To Mom, My Rock, Provider, And Best Friend

Sarah and Martha

Every day at the Mission, we get to see moms in action. We are humbled by their strength, courage, and the sacrifices they make as they work hard to build a better life for their children. In honor of Mother’s Day, Sarah, a former guest, has written this letter to her mom to show her appreciation:

“My mother is the most beautiful and most caring woman I’ve ever met. She is also the most positive person that I know. In any situation, she always finds a way to make it better. When you consider what she has gone through, you would think that she would be broken, but she is the complete opposite. You look at my mother and see how she shines.

For me, it was so inspiring growing up with a woman like my mother. She was always independent and worked so hard for what she had. She would do anything for her kids. We are all that we have.

When she was young, my mother had been disowned by her family. She was only 17 years old when she had my brother. She did not know what to do and felt alone, but my mother made it, found a way, and raised a wonderful, respectful and amazing son. I think of my big brother as a second father.

Growing up, there were hard times, but we were still happy because we had each other. The hardest moment in our life was when my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. My brother and I were young at the time and did not know what to do. We thought we were going to lose the only family we have. Not only is she our rock and provider, but she is also our best friend. She was close to death many times, but she is untouchable. She is super mom—nothing can stop her!

I want to say Happy Mother’s Day to every mother out there. And Happy Mother’s Day to YOU, Mama.
I love you!”
With deep admiration and love, your daughter, Sarah”
